Common Errors in English Chapter 1
Tulisan ini merupakan hasil rangkuman dari buku berjudul "Common Errors in English" yang ditulis oleh M.J. Lado. isinya disusun untuk memenuhi kebutuhan para pelajar, mahasiswa, maupun masyarakat luas yang mempelajari bahasa inggris sebagai bahasa dunia. tujuan utamanya adalah membantu memperbaiki kesalahan- kesalahan umum yang sering dilakukan oleh para pelajar dalam berbahasa inggris terutama oleh mereka yang ingin menguasai percakapan bahasa inggris dengan baik.
berikut ini adalah hasil rangkuman pertama saya dari buku tersebut.
- kesalahan- kesalahan umum dalam penggunaan kata depan--> sejumlah kata kerja (verbs) dan kata sifat (adjectives) dalam bahasa inggris diikuti oleh kata depan (fixed preposition) misalnya: agree with, laugh at, angry with, afraid of, etc. dalam unit ini akan dibahas kesalahan- kesalahan umum yang sering dilakukan dalam pola kalilmat ini disertai pembetulannya

1. accuse of: menuduh
false: they accuse the man for murdering
true: they accused the man of murdering
kata- kata kerja yang termasuk dalam pola ini antara lain: aprrove, advise, beware, consist, despair, smell, compose, deprive, persuade, rob, suspect, remind, warn, die, cure, repent, boast (about), dream (about), convince (about).
contoh:
- he was suspected of stealing the money
- they was convicted of a crime
- the girl reminds me of my ister
- they were warned of the danger
- many people died of malaria
2. agree with = settuju dengan
false: we agree to him
true: we agree with him
kata- kata kerja yang termasuk pola ini: burden, connect, entrust, help, provide, associate, consult, cope, deal, dispense, impress, satisfy, interfere, cover.
contoh:
- we don't want to interfere with their business
- i will help you with the money
- he can't cope with his problems
perkecualian: we agree on his opinion
3. smile at= tersenyum kepada
false: the new girl smiled to me
true: the new girl smiled at me
kata - kata kerja yang masuk dalam pola ini: glance, look, laugh, marvel, rejoice, stare, aim, arrive.
contoh:
- they laughed at me
- don't stare at me
- we rejoiced at (in) his success
4. hope for = berharap akan
false: we hope about your success
true: we hope for your success
kata- kata kerja yang masuk dalam pola ini antara lain: call, long, mourn pray, wait, wish, ask, blame, condemn, forgive, reproach,substitute, pay.
